In the next Lines I'm try to relate a step by step how I ended up here doing Pillows. And how a dream can be fought for and slowly made happen if you got the will and are stubborn pig headed kind of girl.
1st I was lucky to spend a beautiful Sunday on a friends boat in Formentera on the way back , as ALWAYS I fell in LOVE with Ibiza's Hills, this happens to me every time! even when it's misty.
2nd I started drawing this time on my computer in Corel x4 then I edited it into my embroidery software.
Now I'm ready to start; My heart feels I should do a hand or machine sewn Patchwork design, I have been Participating with Mydigitalstitches.com on a few projects and on Facebook they have many wonderful quilters that do wonderful work, But lets face it... I own a newish Tajima embroidery machine and a very old Bernett (cheap) sewing machine! If I do It in Patchwork on my old derelict machine it would be like having a Ferrari and leaving it in the garage every time you use the highway!! So EMBROIDERY machine wins; now It's decision time.... how many Appliqués can I handle.
Not at the computer, that's easy just make as many appliqués as you want, its easy and looks great on the computer; BUT!.. how many nice pieces of Fabric do I have? that match? Colour Combinations? And most important by the time I can get down to Work, It's Saturday afternoon One week after Boating, as we all know weekend flies by, How Busy is my Embroidery machine can I spend 2 hours feeding it appliqués?
15 hours later... I've just pulled a all nighter I got my first pillow (nowhere near a pillow just a pretty patch, still have to remember how to sew! But thank god 4 YouTube) . . I have cried, laughed and made more mistakes than I care to confess this first night. But I have the determination that nothing will stop me in this project.
All the above was end of summer 2010 now End of 2015 I am proud to say I did it!! I actually built up a small company making one of a kind pillows I even buy whole bolts of material, I sell in 2 markets 4 times a week in summer and still manage to run the family business, cope with my unknown chronic constant joint pains. (If you ask close family the word "cope" might not be their first choice of words)
I am slowly building a rage of products and enough of them, to have stock so I can once and for all sell on my web shop internationally, also very excited preparing new Ibiza scenes for the Christmas market at Las Dalias and new ideas for next summer that is starting strong with a four day market in Amsterdam.
But what really keeps me as exited as that 1st night is that as each one is different. I know they are similar but still when you are in your studio cutting up little pieces of material and you are not sure if you have chosen the right ones till the process is finished and always creating new scenes in your mind at least, some are taking a long time to see the light. This is what my stall looks like today.
